MUNICH There was a major police operation in Munich city center, near the Nazi Documentation Center and the Israeli Consulate General, on Thursday morning. Emergency services shot at a suspect who was hit.

The affected area around Briennerstrasse and Karolinenplatz has been cordoned off. According to the police, there are no indications of other suspects, but the situation remains unclear.

A helicopter is circling over the area to give the officers on site a better overview. Local residents report several shots and sirens. An eyewitness said she saw a tall man dressed in black.

He entered the building of the German Academy of Engineering Sciences and fired shots.

The incident occurred on the anniversary of the 1972 Olympic attack, in which eleven Israeli athletes were taken hostage and murdered by Palestinian terrorists. Whether there is a connection has not yet been confirmed

On Platform X, Israeli Consul General Talya Lador wrote: "

"We are very grateful to the Munich police for their actions and cooperation. This event shows how dangerous the rise of anti-Semitism is. It is important that the general public raises its voice against it. Our Consulate General was closed today to commemorate 52 years since the terrorist attack at the Olympic Games."
